Medal Man

Today was the last day of the winter semester of Birds class. There was a hilarious medal ceremony for the kids, complete with heroic music and a podium to climb up on to receive their award. It was a hoot. Nathan was far more interested in playing today than getting his medal...

Been a LONG time

So, let me first give kudos to Carrie for keeping the blog so current. I seem to have fallen off the blogosphere, so I thought I would drop in and give a quick rundown of some of the things that in and of themselves were not blogworthy, but combined just barely make the cut.

First, tomorrow is my first day at a new job. I know what you are thinking, "Man you lost your job?!" Well, I am one of the lucky ones that had an opportunity present itself in this very difficult time. I am doing engineering, and it is still downtown so there aren't too many drastic changes. I am excited about working at the new shop. I have actually been trying to get an interview with this company since I was back in college, and it wasn't until this time around that it worked out. The story is interesting (to me at least), but the only thing you need to know is that God has had in hand in this BIG TIME. For one of the few times in my life I put myself out there and let Him guide me to the right decision, and as I sit here writing this I truly feel that I made the right decision.

Because of logistics associated with the job change I have had this past week off (see the posts below for pictures of our activities). The zoo was a great experience, and I actually had never been to the zoo here. I was impressed. The lions were playful and vocal, and Nate and I were definitely intrigued. Next up was hanging the swing. This is no ordinary swing. It was Carrie's first Mother's Day gift last year, and since we have moved into the new house Carrie has pined for her swing to be hung on the back porch. The reasons for the delay are pretty obvious, but I won't lie, the idea of having to traverse the attic across the house in order to get to the back porch to hang the swing was not a good one. There is a patch in my parents old kitchen ceiling which serves as a monument to my attic traversing skills. That being said, I can proudly say the swing is safely hung, and I did not fall thought the ceiling (yeah me!). Other than that, the three of us have tried to spend as much time as possible together. This week has been a good thing. I go into my new job thankful for the blessings in my life: my wife, my son, my health, a roof over our heads, food on our table, and a job to go to. His blessings are truly abundant. May we all have the grace to see the blessings in our lives, no matter the manner in which they come, and to be trusting in his guidance.

In closing (this post is terribly long and rambling), I want to thank my wonderful wife for her support during this time of change – for being patient with me and believing in me every step of the way. I would not be here today without her.

Zoo boys

Today was such a gift. Jason has the week off (he's starting a great new job on Monday – so proud of him), so we decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and our time together to take Nate on his first trip to the zoo (believe it or not, the Fort Worth Zoo is actually ranked as one of the top five zoos in the nation). Our little boy loves to be outside:

Logan's party

This weekend Nathan helped celebrate his cousin Logan's first birthday. The boys had oh-so-much fun playing together in spite of the yucky cold and ear infection that our little man is suffering from. Here are a few shots from the party:

Still resonating

Admittedly, we don't try to get too deep on this blog (which I'm sure you, our family and friends, probably appreciate). I read something this morning, however, that struck me in such a way that I could not keep from sharing it. If you have a moment, please click here to read Fr. Joe Shea's January 18, 2009 homily. Catholic or not, I think you will find it compelling.
