Jason bought me a newspaper on Sunday so I could clip coupons to my heart's content (easily entertained, I know). Of course, Nathan wanted a piece of the action after he woke up from his nap. He's on board for anything that involves ripping paper. In what I'm sure must have been record time, the neatly stacked Star Telegram became a blizzard of flying pages and pieces. I think I would have protested if I hadn't been laughing so hard! (Note Nate's lack of pants...He took them off during his nap because, really, who needs pants?)
Also falling under the category of hilarious is Nathan's latest trick:
Even while sick with an ear infection this little man knows how to have fun. Maybe there is a bit of truth in the old adage that laughter is the best medicine.
Nate's beloved Geoffry has been replaced by another long-legged cuddly friend. Fred the frog has hopped his way to best buddy status in recent days. He's had plenty of chances to shine in his new role, as Nathan is sick with another ear infection this week and is need of some extra hugs (I'm afraid I may have passed my rotten ear problems on to my sweet boy).
Today at lunch Nathan let it be known that he really likes pita bread with hummus. He also polished off the leftover potato soup I heated up and fed himself some banana. Who is this big boy? Although he still gobbles up his pureed fruits and veggies, he's becoming increasingly interested in what's on my plate, which is pretty entertaining.
We're trying to teach him to say, "More, please" rather than just pointing, but what comes out sounds a bit like "moe."
Noni and PawPaw came to visit us on Wednesday and Thursday while Charlie was away for Spring Break, and oh, what a fun few days we had! On Wednesday we had dinner and ice cream (which Nathan gobbled up) at the Town Center. Nate was mesmerized by the water fountain and children playing around it:
On Thursday morning we headed to Fort Worth to ride a train along the Trinity River. PawPaw had been dying to take Nate for a train ride, and the weather could not have been more beautiful:
The train stops along the way so you can buy popcorn and drinks. Nathan decided to practice his walking skills and have a little snack:
The ride ended near the zoo, so we braved the crowds to see the animals (SO worth it!). It just so happens that Wednesday and Thursday were record-breaking attendance days at the Fort Worth Zoo (a reflection of how amazing the weather was and the fact that it was Spring Break). Out of the thousands of people there, we happened to run into a friend who plans events for the zoo. She invited us to join a small private group for a behind-the-scenes meeting with some of the animals used in their "Arc" program. We met baby and adult penguins, an enormous dog, and some beautiful birds. We decided to make our exit just before they brought out the giant snake! Nathan was so tickled by the whole experience:
At Nathan's one-year exam this morning we learned that he weighs 25 lb. (75 - 80th percentile) and is 32" long (95th percentile). There are so many new things that our big boy can experience now that he's one: a forward-facing car ride, cow's milk, peanut butter, citrus fruit, eggs, and even shellfish. He loves drinking from a straw and points to which of his foods he'd like to eat. He'll also point when he wants another bite (especially if he's eating ice cream). Toddlerhood, here we come!
