Sunday Fun

Today our friends Ashlee, Roger, and cutie pie Milla joined us for a very fun afternoon at the pool. I think Nathan and Milla would have been perfectly content to go down the water slide all afternoon...

Somehow, we were able to persuade the
kiddos to try out some of the other pools, too...
I love this face...
Ice cream!
Thank you so much for a great afternoon, Fort family!

Stayin' Cool

This weekend our goal has simply been to keep cool (no easy task since the temperature has blazed past the 100 degree mark every day in recent memory!) Luckily, we've had plenty of chances to splash away the Texas heat...

On Friday Leslie come over to swim and have dinner with us. We had such fun (like we always do!) Nate couldn't wait to show her his bravery on the big water slide...

No trip to the pool is complete without ice cream.
The joy it brings is worth every drop of mess it makes...

This morning Jason set up Nathan's little pool (yep, we finally got one!) on the back porch. Since it's completely shaded we decided to forgo the bathing suit. A swimmy diaper is all you really need in your own backyard...

This afternoon we went to Brett and Amanda's house to celebrate their daughter Roxy's third birthday. They also had a pool filled up for the kids to play in (have you noticed that Nathan is thoroughly entertained by water hoses?)...

More pool time planned for tomorrow...Hooray!

Splish Splash

Nate's pal Hudsen hosted playgroup at his house today. He had the coolest octopus water toy, which Nathan was mesmerized by, to say the least...

I have been debating whether or not to get a little pool for our backyard (since we have a great big pool just across the street I worried we wouldn't really use it enough to make it worthwhile). Nathan enjoyed Hudsen's so much, though, that I might just reconsider...

(Miss Milla represented the girls today. I don't know how
I got home without a picture of her cute swim suit!)

Vroooom!

It's funny how some things
are just innately appealing to little boys...

Thomas is Nathan's new favorite character, though not because of the show (it doesn't really hold his attention just yet). He loves reading the books, though, and is ecstatic about having his very own "choo choo" to play with.

Words To Live By

The other night while waiting for gelato we overheard a father giving his son a quite impressive "talkin' to." The gist of it was that his son needed to be more respectful to his mother, and when she asked him to do something he was to do it and not argue. During this lecture he delivered what I felt was a little gem of parenting, so here it is, a Father's Day edition of Words to Live By:

"When your mother tells you to do something, it isn't her way of bringing up a topic for discussion. When she tells you to do something the only 'BUT' is yours moving to do what she told you."

Thank you, Sir, for such a great bit of parental wisdom.

Speaking of Father's Day, mine was pretty awesome. Carrie and Nathan know how to celebrate a dad. I am sure there will be a great post of our Father's Day activities later today. It involved awesome banana pancakes, gifts, the museum, and a superhero (cape and all). Stay tuned.

Happy Father's Day

Translation: "I have the best daddy in the whole wide world, and I love him with all my heart. I try my hardest to do the things that he does (like mow and sweep and give pats on the back) because I want to be just like him. I love when he wrestles, tickles, reads me my books, and shares his ice cream. Best of all are his hugs and kisses. Yep, I'm a pretty lucky kid. Happy Father's Day to Daddy, PawPaw, and ToTo! I love you!"

Buddies

This morning Jason took Nate to play with his pal Owen. I wanted to go so badly but needed a few quiet hours to get some work done. Owen's dad Bill is Jason's very good friend, and his sweet wife Cindy also had to work today, so it turned out to be a great testosterone-filled time. At 19 months, Owen is a good 4 months older than Nathan and taught him many cool big boy tricks (you know, like how to use the hose to gas up your 4 wheeler). Jason said it was so much fun to watch them interact. Seems to me that these guys are best buddies in the making...
