Summer Fun

Though summer "officially" began just two days ago, I would argue that the season has been in full swing for quite some time in north Texas. I mean, we hit 100º twice during the first week of June. How silly of me to have thought that a winter with record snowfall would equate to mild/bearable summer temperatures! When I started the car today after a trip to the pool the thermometer read 104º (just typing that makes me sweat). As you can imagine, we have been trying our hardest to find ways to have fun without melting in this Texas heat.

____

Like taking trips to the pool with friends...

And going to SoccerTots at the indoor soccer arena (I'm sorry to say these are probably the only soccer shots I'll take. We're so busy in class that it's tough to snap pictures without feeling like I'm not fully participating with Nate. Just trust me when I say the kiddos are a hoot and just plain cute!)

(getting stamps from Coach at the end of class)

And making lots of trips to the spray park (and the library, and the museums, and the — well, you get the picture)...

Whew. I think we just might survive
this sweltering summer after all!

Daddy

"Happy Fodder's Day, Daddy!"

Nate made Jason a tie in preschool and saved it for his special day. This little boy adores his dad so much...

We celebrated with pancakes and presents in the morning and later headed to the Children's Museum...

We love you, Daddy!

Tri Weekend

I am embarrassingly behind in posting these pictures from the Metroplex Sprint Triathlon (two weeks ago — man I am a bad blogger!). Jason and Charlie were so much fun to watch and, as always, made us extremely proud...

Out of the Mouths of Babes

I have been writing down many of the funny things Nathan says lately so that I can remember them when he is older. I was looking over my little list today and thought I would share a few random things that made me laugh.

.........

I turned off the vacuum after finishing just one room to move something out of the way. Nate was not a fan of all the noise I was making, and he said,

"All done. You did a great job vacuuming, Mom. And now you can put it away."

.........

He picked up a book off of Jason's night table one morning and said,

"This book is called Mary is Jesus' Mudder. Oops! I skipped a page. The end."

........

After Jason and I did a little ABC duet the other night (we do a lot of singing around here), Nate said with great enthusiasm,

"That was awesome, guys!"

.........

Running into the kitchen to where I was standing one afternoon, Nathan exclaimed,

"I'll be right back!"

Where are you going?

"I's going to Costco — bye!"

Playtime

If you are looking for Nathan, you probably ought to check the kitchen. When you find him there, chances are he has pulled all the chairs away from the table. You'll notice his elaborate display of vehicles, and if you listen closely, you'll hear an animated story unfold as he circles the table with his trucks, cars, and trains...

One of his vehicles is needed to help with an emergency. Better go quickly to the burning building! Luckily, someone always has a hydraulic platform (seriously) to get the job done.

I could listen to him pretend for hours (which is good because that is his favorite thing to do these days). His cars and trucks all have names, and they are usually racing or rescuing one another. He recites parts of different books to create his stories, which is hilarious (like when his Tow Mater truck says, "Well, dadgum!"). I love this little man so very much.

(He was sporting his soccer gear today
for SoccerTots, which he LOVES.)

Just the Two of Us

This morning Nathan and I took a trip to the zoo. In all the gazillion times we've been, we had never gone by ourselves, just the two of us, until today. What a special treat our zoo date was. I left the stroller and wagon at home and let Nate walk/hop/run around...

We also wanted to send big hugs and
kisses to two very special people...
