Halloween part 1

We began our Halloween festivities yesterday afternoon with a visit to American Airlines HDQ for a little trick-or-treating with my AW friends. It was really great to see all of them and they were so kind to Nathan, giving him Halloween cards and a pumpkin balloon (which he loved). How I miss them! He did really well in the costume, which was a relief because he has several more opportunities to wear it before his first Halloween comes to an end. This morning we wore it to Kindermusik and I snapped this shot of him for his daddy. More to come!
Nate, you have grown so fast. You fill our lives with such joy everyday. Just thought I would spread the joy. If this doesn't put a smile on your face, I don't know what will.

Ode to Geoffrey

Meet Geoffrey. He has been chewed, thrown, shaken, drooled upon, washed, and chewed some more. He is the perfect size for little hands (and mouths) and is the shakeable, lovable drier of tears, creator of smiles, and savior of mommies (at least this mommy). I am thankful for my little lovey's first lovey. The end.

...And it is over

Well Friday was the exam, and the only thing I can say with any certainty is that it is done. I finished and had an answer for every question. I will find out by Christmas what the results are, so, basically, it will make my Christmas or mean that I will be spending my spring studying for hours on end and lose all my Saturdays like I did this fall. Speaking of Saturdays, I was able to spend my first "free" Saturday of the fall with my family. Carrie, Nate, and I went to the Pumpkin Express Pumpkin Patch. I have never been to one before, but it seemed like something that would be fun to do as a family. As we pulled up it was rather out of place There were two story brick condos in the middle of Argyle, TX (an extremely rural town here in north Texas), and behind the condos was the pumpkin patch. When you first walk in there is a "haunted house" train depot and a miniature train, which Nate thought was super cool. The train takes you around the property, and let me say it is an extremely beautiful piece of property full of trees. Once we got to the patch there was quite a turnout, and there were quite a few pumpkins. Let me tell you, they are PROUD of these pumpkins. They waned $15 a piece for these suckers, not to mention you already had to pay $5 a person to even get there. Needless to say we did not purchase a pumpkin, but we took lots of great pictures. Somebody was nice enough to take our picture, and they turned out great. Be sure to check out the family site for the pictures.

This morning Mark and Anne came by and hung out with Nate and saw the house. Nate was giving smiles and had such a great time with Mark, and he really liked Anne's necklace (thankfully she was able to take it off before Nate could do any damage with his Kung-Fu grip). It was good to be able to hang out with them and for them to have a chance to hang with Nate. We all went down to Fort Worth and had lunch with their friends. Nate and Lindsay had a great time, and I'm pretty sure she could count it as a work-out. The entire time she was trying to hold him all he did was jump, and for those of you who have tried to hold him recently you know exactly what I am talking about.

We later went on to Leslie's house and hung out with her and Bonnie & Clyde (her two brittany spaniels). Nate had a blast with the dogs, but as soon as they figured out that he wanted to pet them and that he wasn't scared of them, they were not quite sure what to do. Bonnie would get close enough for Nate to reach out and touch her, and when he did, she bolted in fear. Of course Nate thought that was the most hilarious thing in the world.

After a good visit we headed home because Carrie had to get some work done. She has landed some freelance design work, and she has a pretty tight deadline. It worked out well that I was done with the exam, so I can take care of Nate so she can get some work done. I think she is really excited to have full creative license on the work, but it is hard to tell at this point because the deadline has her pretty stressed. Once it is done I think she will be really happy about the work. For now it is an adjustment to have so many jobs: full time mom, full time wife, full time family nutritionist and chef, full time art director/designer/CEO of her own design firm (and she hasn't even started her soap business yet). I am doing what I can to help out around the house and with Nate now that the test is done. I just hope I can help her not get overloaded with all she is trying to do. I pray that God gives me the wisdom to do what needs to be done, and that He continues to grant Carrie Grace to keep from killing me when my clothes don't quite make it into the hamper. Mom was right, after years of developing a bad habit, it is now driving my wife crazy.

Little Driver

Nate's walker arrived this week, and he has been SO excited to move around independently. I had to post this picture of him "backing up" because, what can I say, it makes me laugh. At least we know we have a safe little driver on our hands. (more pictures on the family site)

T-Day

Well tomorrow is the big day. Eight hours of torture. At least I can have lunch in the middle, so starvation is not part of the torture. I spent last night organizing my notes and putting together the binders full of my practice problems and notes. I think I have gone through 4 packs of the little post-it note tabs. I was feeling pretty good about it until this week. With all the comments people have made recently I am starting to feel that I am really underestimating this test. I cannot see how that is possible, but maybe I am. Carrie has had to hear me go all over the place with my feelings about the test. She has been really great, she has been very supportive through the whole studying-like-it-is-my-job thing. I was especially having a hard time last night, but on the way home while I was talking to Carrie she said something that really helped. She didn't say "I'm sure you will do fine," or "All you can do is your best," she said, "I believe in you." She has said it before, but it really struck a chord this time. I do feel better today (although I wish I could be at home and not at work). There is something so simple yet so powerful about having the faith of your family behind you. All challenges in life can be conquered when some one believes in you because then you have no reason not to believe in yourself.

Big Week

So this weekend Dad basically studied ALL THE TIME! The only exception being when he and I watched to A&M game while Mommy was gone (I am not supposed to watch TV, and she is especially worried that I have the College Football is my LIFE gene from Dad). They didn't win, but I was waving my 12th Man towel proudly and excitedly (ok, really all I really did was chew on it and drool all over it, but I am 7 months old, what do you expect?). So this is the last week that Dad has to be stressed, and really busy, and gone every Saturday. I am happy that it is almost over, and I hope he does really well. On Saturday Mommy, Daddy and I are going to the pumpkin patch! There is a train, hay rides, and pumpkins (I really like to eat pumpkin). This is my first time, so I am excited, but I have no idea what to expect. Then, Sunday I am going to play with my Uncle Mark and Aunt Anne. I haven't seen them since they got married, so they are going to be really impressed with all my neat tricks and skills. Daddy says that I will like Anne a lot, and we can play well together on account of us being about the same size. That reminds me, in case you guys have not heard, I went to the doctor last week and weighed in at about 25 pounds. Dad figures I am about 29 inches long. I guess I will stop being "long" once I am walking. I don't know how that works, but to be honest, not really that worried about it. Well I am going to go play with Mommy now. Hope you guys have a great week, and I am looking forward to seeing you this weekend Uncle Mark and Aunt Anne.

Friday was an amazingly beautiful fall day, so I took the little man to the Grapevine Botanical Gardens to enjoy the sunshine. He loved touching the grass and watching people walk by our blanket...

We've spent the rest of the weekend recovering from a yucky stomach virus (thankfully, Nathan has managed to stay healthy and even seems to be over his cold).

Lucky Me

Four years ago today the most handsome boy in the world asked me to be his wife. How lucky am I? It seems like a lifetime ago and a minute ago all at the same time. So, to my wonderful husband, happy day-we-got-engaged (yes, I am absolutely that sentimental).

Also, our sweet little guy reached seven months on Saturday and got a yucky cold to mark the occasion. When I took him to the doctor yesterday he weighed in at 24 lb., 12 oz!!! I literally started laughing when the number appeared on the scale. No wonder my back has been so sore! Sadly, I had to take down his beloved jumper, as he has now passed the 24 lb. limit. Hopefully the walker we ordered will bring him just as much joy. I am now in a race to get as many of his 12-month clothes on him as possible before he outgrows them. Also, much to his daddy's delight, Nate has finally decided to like peas. If at first you don't succeed...

Nate is Great

I know I just posted a political diatribe, but I also wanted to share about Nate. He is figuring stuff out all the time. He sits up, and one of his favorite games is "take stuff out". It is a complicated game, accomplished in the following steps:

Step 1 - Find a box, basket, or container
Step 2 - Military crawl towards said container
Step 3 - Grab container, and proceed to empty the contents
Step 4 - Crawl around and find another container, and repeat.

He is so focused and intense when he does it too. Is is also very strong willed. If he wants to get somewhere, or grab something, it takes major distraction to derail him. He constantly amazes us with what he can do, and what he is always trying to do. We love our little linebacker.

Also, this morning during breakfast Mommy dropped some food on the tray, and before she could wipe it he slammed is hand into it, and that was the coolest thing to him. Food is good to eat, but NOW it is fun to play with. And for a kid who feeling things is his number one hobby (second only to "take stuff out"), it made his day. Hopefully new pictures will be up this week, so check back here or the Family Website for new ones.

For Ben

Just wanted to ask if you could please say a prayer for Ben today as he begins his eighth round of chemo. He has been incredibly brave throughout his treatment, but the cumulative effects of the drugs are making each round increasingly difficult on his body. May God bless both he and Heather with strength and peace.

Not-so-deep thought for the day: Monkey socks make me smile.
