Genetic?

As you all have seen, Nathan is into pushing things and doing just about anything that resembles work. He does it with this look of focus and determination that Carrie claims he gets from me. She says I have the same look when I am doing "work," even if it is just washing dishes or chopping vegetables. This led us to a discussion the other night about whether the desire to work hard could be genetic. She seems to think so.

Another thing Nate clearly enjoys is laughing and smiling. He can make even the worst of days disappear the second I see him. His pure happiness and joy is much like any toddler, but his ability to love, hug, and be generally sweet and happy is really something special. And this, like his desire to "work," might just be genetic, only this one he gets from his mom. I used to say that I never knew how to smile until I met her (she claims it is only because I had braces for so long and got them off shortly after we started dating), but alas, my smile exists in pictures only after her. The same love and affection that Nathan shows to his family (and stuffed animals) is the same that Carrie shares. There is not a minute that goes by during the day with Nathan that she isn't smiling. Even in the morning she wakes up just enough to smile at me before I leave.

The truth is that I feel incredibly blessed to have so much love to come home to everyday.

Worker Bee

14 months old today, and he's already mowing the lawn :)

Nate and I picked up this bubble mower today during our grocery trip to Super Wal-Mart. Jason will tell you that this is my weakness. I am always finding sidewalk chalk, or bubble wands, or books, or kites when I'm just supposed to be finding groceries. I am so weak!

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day! As I sit here thinking what to write, I am struck by the idea that we have just a single day each year meant to recognize our mothers, the mothers of our parents, and the mothers of our children. This should really be an all the time thing. Mothers have a tough job that is often overlooked. I could easily go into all the ways that moms are invaluable, as I'm sure we all could. Why is it that there are so many calls to mom on this day only? We all need to talk to Mom at least once a week. A card and flowers showing our love for Mom should come about more than just once a year. So that being said, I share with you a Jewish proverb that explains how important mothers are:

"God could not be everywhere and, therefore, he made mothers."

I want to wish Happy Mother’s Day to my wonderful wife,
a terrific mom, that is truly the love of my life.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Special Visitor

This weekend we were so lucky to have Aunt Char come visit us! The Elmo balloon she brought Nathan has officially become his most treasured possession (do not even think of trying to take it from his little hand).

She also gave me the most beautiful tulips for Mother's Day...

Nathan asked Aunt Char to read his whole basket of books (twice). He loved sitting in her lap and helping turn the pages. Oh, how he loves his books...

My little teddy bear showing us his cuddly nature (how perfect that his shirt says "bear hug")...

This morning (with balloon in hand, of course) Nate entertained us all by talking on his "cell phone" (our old tv remote). He holds it up to his head just behind the ear...

No pants. Big shocker.

We topped off a wonderful visit with lunch at Blue Mesa and a special trip to J. Rae's for cupcake heaven...

Cute Alert

So sorry to have neglected my blog-keeping duties! Hopefully today's offerings will make up for so many days missed...
